New Release Round-Up 07-24-15

New Releases - Fri, 24 Jul

ROGER WATERS - Amused To Death: Remastered - Sony Legacy
An unblinking look at an entertainment-obsessed society, Amused To Death addresses issues that have only grown in complexity and urgency over the past two decades. With Amused to Death, Roger Waters sounded the alarm about a society increasingly and unthinkingly in thrall to its television screens. Twenty-three years later, Amused to Death speaks to our present moment in ways that could scarcely have been anticipated two decades ago. In 2015, television is just one option in an endless array of distractions available to us anytime, anywhere, courtesy of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. With eyes glued to our screens, the dilemmas and injustices of the real world can easily recede from view.

PUBLIC ENEMY - Man Plans God Laughs - Spitdigital
Public Enemy release their new album 'Man Plans God Laughs', and it’s the rap group’s thirteenth. Their last record was 2012’s The Evil Empire Of Everything. In an interview with Maxim, Chuck D described the record as “a comment about the 21st century in this technological yet still political world.”

DUCKTAILS - St. Catherine - Domino
St. Catherine is the 2015 album from Ducktails, the solo project of Real Estate's Matt Mondanile. It is by far his most accomplished album to date. The album is filled with his baroque pop flourishes and layered with his soothing, but sharp vocals. Recorded in Los Angeles and Berlin and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, FIDLAR), St. Catherine is a complex, moody work filled with yearning and lots of the gorgeous melodic fretwork for which Mondanile has become well known for with his work in Real Estate.

WATKINS FAMILY HOURWATKINS FAMILY HOUR - Watkins Family Hour - Family Hour RecordsWatkins Family Hour
Watkins Family Hour - an acclaimed musical collective featuring siblings Sara and Sean Watkins along with Fiona Apple, Benmont Tench, Don Heffington, Greg Leisz and Sebastian Steinberg - release their debut, self-titled album. Additionally, in celebration of the release, the collective will take their "variety show of epic proportions" (Los Angeles Times) to cities across the U.S. this summer kicking off with a performance at the Newport Folk Festival. Video Available

We Came As Romans have built their reputation through near constant touring to become stalwarts of the melodic-hardcore scene, alongside contemporaries like Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens.  Their latest self-titled album incorporates some more pop elements into the band's traditionally heavy sound, courtesy of accomplished producer David Bendeth (Bring Me The Horizon, Paramore, Underoath).  We Came As Romans' impressive sales history speaks for itself.

THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL - With A Lampshade OnTHE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL - With A Lampshade On - Signature SoundsTHE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL - With A Lampshade On
With A Lampshade On, The Dustbowl Revival's fourth album, finally shines a light on the band’s strength as a live act. They formed in L.A.’s bohemian enclave of Venice Beach in late 2007, the result of a hopeful Craigslist ad posted by bandleader Zach Lupetin, a Midwestern transplant who hoped to join together players in the string band and brass band traditions. Since then, one thing has become clear as the group grows more confident in their abilities: Dustbowl does its best work onstage.

THE BUNNY THE BEAR - A Liar Wrote This

THE BUNNY THE BEAR - A Liar Wrote ThisTHE BUNNY THE BEAR - A Liar Wrote This - Victory RecordsTHE BUNNY THE BEAR - A Liar Wrote This
The Bunny The Bear have broken new ground with their 5th album, A Liar Wrote This. The far-reaching album defies genre boundaries with its expansive style that bridges pop, spellbinding soul and introduces the acidic, yet velvety voice of new “Bear” Haley Roback.  “A Liar Wrote This has already taken a very special place in my heart,” confesses Matt “The Bunny” Tybor. “I am extremely proud of the hard work put in by all involved, especially Haley, my new “Bear.” It was wonderful working with my long-time friend and producer Doug White, and I couldn’t be more confident with the new direction we’ve taken. We didn’t want to shut fans out by doing a 180 degree change, but the vigor Haley brings definitely earns its place on A Liar Wrote This.”Video Available

Between The Buried And Me - Coma Ecliptic

Between The Buried And Me - Coma EclipticBETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME - Coma Ecliptic - Metal BladeBetween The Buried And Me - Coma Ecliptic
Grandiose, dynamic, heavy, melodic, technically challenging: these are all words that fall equally short when trying to describe Between the Buried and Me's sonic offerings. When tasked with explaining the band's previous effort, The Parallax II: Future Sequence, Decibel Magazine claimed that the album "offers more substance than most bands put forth in entire careers" and Metal Hammer simply stated that it was "utterly captivating." Where does a burgeoning progressive act go from there? The answer is found in their seventh full-length album, Coma Ecliptic. Spanning just over an hour, the album stands as a significant step in the evolution for the group as a whole, as well as the individual musicians: vocalist / keyboardist Tommy Rogers, guitarists Paul Waggoner and Dustie Waring, bassist Dan Briggs, and drummer Blake Richardson.

GHOSTFACE KILLAH - Adrian Younge Presents Twelve Reasons To Die II - Linear Labs
Fans who have been waiting for the past two years can finally rejoice: Adrian Younge's and Ghostface Killah's ''Twelve Reasons To Die II'' is Out Now. To up the ante this time around, Ghostface has added a very important lyrical companion to the mix: Raekwon. The chemistry that was cemented two decades ago on Rae's classic ''Only Built For Cuban Linx'' is a strong as ever, clearly heard on five out of the album's 13 songs. And on the topic of chemistry, executive producer and Wu-Tang patriarch The RZA returns to ''Part II'' as the story's narrator.

OWL CITY - Mobile Orchestra - Republic
No matter where he goes, Owl City mastermind Adam Young is constantly creating music. It doesn't matter if he's backstage before a gig or sitting in an airport terminal, the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is penning music like a symphony on the go. He nods to that process with his third studio album, aptly titled Mobile Orchestra. Featuring unexpected collaborations with Aloe Blacc, Hanson, Jake Owen and more, the album stems from Adam s creative ability to forget what he knows, clear the slate and curate an entirely new experience. Mobile Orchestra follows in the footsteps of Owl City s impressive album sales topping 2.5 million and single sales surpassing 18 million globally (including smash hits Good Time and Fireflies which hit #1 in 26 countries).

TYRESE - The Black Rose - Voltron Records
Tyrese Gibson - the man of all media!! His new release The Black Rose is a follow up to his successful 2011 release Open Invitation which featured the smash hit single Stay which remained a number #1 single for 11 consecutive weeks on the Billboards UAC chart; as well as hit singles Best of Me and Nothing on You both of which hit the Top 5 at Urban AC radio. Open Invitation earned Tyrese a Soul Train Award for Best R&B Song, Stay, and a 2012 Grammy Nomination for Best R&B Album..
